Two different v6 engines are available, the old overhead-valve vulcan v6 and the modern dual overhead-cam all-aluminum duratec v6. Both are 3. 0-liter engines, but the duratec is more sophisticated and much more powerful. They also come standard with abs and a rear anti-roll bar for better handling. The ford taurus is a carryover from 2006.

2006 ford escape review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. America's best-selling compact suv. introductionthe ford escape is america's best-selling compact sport-utility. And it's a good choice. Folding down the rear seats reveals a moderately sized cargo area with a flat floor. It's quick and enjoyable and communicates very well with the automatic. The escape is also available with a gas/electric hybrid system. The 3. 0-liter v6 comes standard on the limited and is optional on the xlt. The escape hybrid is fitted with a 2. 3-liter gas engine with an electric motor.  the xls 20,070) and xls 4wd 21,820) come standard with air conditioning, low-back cloth front bucket seats, illuminated remote entry, power door locks, windows and mirrors, tilt steering column, speed controls on the steering wheel, privacy glass, 15-inch steel wheels and am/fm/6cd. Safety is enhanced with the addition of anti-lock brakes (abs).  the xlt v6 24,880) and xlt v6 4wd 25,140) come standard with the automatic transmission.  limited 24,930) and limited 4wd 26,630) get premium leather seats, seat heaters, dual front sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated exterior mirrors, a reverse sensing system, and a mach audio in-dash six-cd changer with automatic volume control. The limited is distinguished by its monochrome exterior with body-colored trim and bright machined 16-inch aluminum wheels. Limited models are upgraded with front side-impact air bags designed to offer torso protection.  a safety package 595) for all models adds ford's safety canopy rollover protection system and front side air bags. We strongly recommend getting it as it can provide head protection in side impact or rollover accident.  option packages are available for each trim level. A luxury comfort package 1,095) for limited models includes a 320-watt audiophile stereo with six-disc in-dash cd changer, six speakers plus subwoofer; heated front seats, heated side mirrors, and reverse sensing system.  the xlt no boundaries package 1,055) adds all-terrain owl tires, 16-inch bright machined aluminum wheels, black painted step bars, class ii trailer towing, and wheel lips. The xlt sport 24,185) and xlt sport 4wd 25,935) boast all the xlt standard equipment plus 16-inch bright machined aluminum wheels, p235/70r16 tires, painted dark shadow gray fascias, bodyside cladding, wheel lip moldings and black step bars.  a leather comfort group 595) is available for xlt and xlt sport models, and class ii towing preparation 395) can be ordered for xlt, xlt sport and limited models. A cargo convenience group 150) for all models adds a retractable cargo area cover and rear cargo storage bin. Stand-alone options include power moonroof 585) on xlt, xlt sport and limited models; side step bars 350) on xls and xlt models, and a roof rack with horizontal bars 40) on the xls.  the escape hybrid 26,900) and hybrid 4wd 28,525) are equipped similarly to the limited models. walkaroundthe ford escape is wide for the class (compact suvs), giving it a well-planted road demeanor. Its forward-poised stance, large wheel lips, wide body cladding, and integrated bumper guard lend a functional appearance, while its short front and rear overhangs add to its sporting appeal. The escape has a family resemblance to the ford explorer and expedition, and looks bolder and more aggressive than the honda cr-v.  being able to see the leading edge of the hood from the driver's seat makes the escape easier to maneuver in tight places. Its 7. 8 inches of ground clearance may help clear some obstacles, but not big rocks. Outside door handles are easy to grab and feel like they're going to last.  the styling was freshened for 2005 with new headlamps, new fog lamps, a new egg-crate grille, new fascias, revised bumpers, and new wheels. The result of all this was a fresher, more contemporary look for escape.  accessories from ford outfitters include a snap-in pet barrier and a system to haul two mountain bikes in the cargo area. Bike racks can also be mounted on the roof; the standard roof rack with crossbars holds up to 100 pounds. Foot rails are designed to make it easier to lift kayaks, snowboards and other toys onto the roof rack. The rear bumper is also designed to aid roof access.  the no boundaries rack system features a sliding rail that can be repositioned from the roof to the rear of the vehicle, locking into the bumper. This provides two separate loading surfaces: a traditional roof rack and a vertically oriented rack across the rear. When not in use, the sliding rails can be stored within the conventional roof portion of the rack system. interiorthe escape is a compact suv, but the front seats are nearly as roomy as those in the midsize explorer. Getting in or out of the front seats is made easier by low door sills and wide door openings. Overall, the cabin is a pleasant place. The xls has manually adjustable seats trimmed with cloth. Xlt gets premium cloth trim. Leather comes standard on the limited, optional on the xlt.  a redesign of the interior for 2005 brought upgraded seats, new fabrics, new gauges, and more interior storage. The shifter on automatic models was moved off of the column and onto the floor. Illuminated switches for the power windows and power locks made them easier to find.  white-faced instruments are set in a simple, easy-to-understand instrument panel. The audio system and heating, ventilation and air conditioning controls in the center stack are angled slightly toward the driver for easier access while driving.  side-impact airbags are optional, and are part of a safety package that includes ford's safety canopy rollover protection system. Pretensioners combined with load-limiting retractors are standard on front-seat belts. In a crash, these pretensioners automatically tighten the belts, while the load limiters are designed to reduce the risk of chest injuries in severe collisions. We strongly recommend always wearing seatbelts as they are the first line of defense in a crash; more than half of the nation's approximately 42,000 traffic fatalities each year are people not wearing seatbelts.  the rear seats offer good knee room. The rear-seat cushion can be removed for more load-carrying capacity. The suspension has a comparatively taut ride quality, without the roly-poly and mushy ride that characterizes larger suvs with big off-road tires and long-travel suspensions. The suspension was upgraded starting with 2005 models with larger-diameter front shocks and a new front stabilizer system to better control ride motions.  we've found the escape handles well. The steering is responsive, direct and accurate with no dead spot in the center, and there's enough feeling in the steering to impart a sense of control. The tires offer respectable grip in paved corners. Transient response is surprisingly good, meaning the escape maintains its composure in a series of left-right-left lane-change maneuvers. And we found it to be a good match for the automatic transmission. The 2. 3-liter engine produces 153 horsepower and 152 pound-feet of torque. It uses a balance shaft for smoothness.  the 3. 0-liter v6 engine delivers stronger acceleration performance and we don't pine for power in a v6 escape. The transmission shifts smoothly up and down, and chooses gears appropriately for the situation. The engine's broad power band never lugs or strains. Drum brakes are used on t.

2008 ford escape review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. One of ford's best gets better. introductionthe ford escape has been thoroughly updated for 2008, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it america's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. The escape's standard safety features are upgraded significantly for 2008.  we'd call the escape a little truck among small suvs. Its new styling deliberately invokes ford's larger, truck-based expedition and explorer sport-utilities. Escape's ride height and seating position are a bit higher than competitors such as the honda cr-v, and it can tow up to 3,500 pounds, which is substantially more than most other vehicles in the class.  yet the ford escape still delivers the advantages of unit-body, car-based competitors such as the honda cr-v. All variants, including the v6 and escape hybrid, deliver some of best epa mileage ratings in the class. All, including the gas-electric hybrid, are offered with either front- or all-wheel drive. For the most part, the hybrid drives just like a conventional gas-only escape. It's a well-executed package. Folding the rear seats opens a good sized cargo area with a flat floor, and space behind the seat surpasses that in the trunk of the typical sedan. Interior storage options have improved considerably. The finish is more upscale and pleasing, and feature function and switches are among the best.  safety features that were extra-cost options on lower-trim models are now standard across the board, including ford's roll stability control system. Escape now sets the class benchmark for safety features.  there's a ford escape model for most tastes and needs. Dollar for feature, ford escape prices have dropped considerably the past few years. The premium for the escape hybrid has also decreased. It's now less than $2,000 more than a comparably equipped limited.  the ford escape remains one of the more appealing vehicles in its class, regardless of price, and certainly one of the better values. The xls comes with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power windows, mirrors and locks, an am/fm stereo with cd and auxiliary jack, rear window defroster and 16-inch steel wheels.    the escape xlt 20,880) and xlt 4wd 22,360) add more standard features, including upgraded cloth upholstery, a power driver's seat, cruise control, privacy glass and 16-inch alloy wheels. The cargo convenience group 395) includes a retractable cargo area cover and a compartmentalized rear storage bin. The audiophile package 695) includes a high-power stereo with seven speakers, subwoofer and the in-dash cd changer. The limited luxury package 795) adds dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and a back-up warning system. The audiophile and navigation package 2,695) includes the stereo upgrade and ford's touch-screen navigation system; in the hybrid, it also adds a meter that graphically and immediately demonstrates the benefits of hybrid drive, and helps the driver maximize fuel economy. Other options include cruise control 225), cd changer 295), a power moonroof 795), floor mats 55), 16-inch alloy wheels 375), 17-inch chromed wheels 695), and a class ii towing package 345).  safety features have been upgraded substantially for 2008, making equipment that was previously optional on lower trim levels standard across the board, and setting the class benchmark for small sport-utilities. Passive safety features include front- and side-impact airbags for front occupants and curtain-type head protection airbags for all outboard seats. The side curtains can remain inflated for several seconds in the event of a rollover, and are designed to slide between the side glass and occupants if the people are oddly seated or resting heads against a window. Rsc adds a second gyroscopic roll-rate sensor to the typical stability control package, measuring the escape's roll angle and roll rate and applying countermeasures (such as braking one of the wheels or reducing power) to increase rollover resistance. walkaroundthe 2008 ford escape has been re-styled more thoroughly than a quick glance might suggest. None of its major body panels are common to previous models, but the redesign is evolutionary and the most obvious changes are in the details, or jewelry, as designers call them. In an impressionistic way, the new escape will look familiar to those who have owned previous escapes, or those who pay attention to what others drive.  as such, the new escape has the air of a conventional, truck-based suv, with a more rugged look than many other small, sedan-platform sport-utilities such as the honda cr-v. For starters, escape sits a bit higher than many competitors (8. 1 inches of ground clearance), and the high profile is enhanced by its design.  the new grille looks like it was designed for a truck. The headlights are essentially connected to the grille, and shaped to create a family resemblance with ford's edge crossover suv. Yet the grille itself is tall and flat and stacked right on top of a skid plate-type fascia that flows under the bumper. Escape's beltline, or the crease that runs just under the windows, is high, too, and its roof pillars are blacked out. The taillights have a clear band that wraps around the rear corners. The lower bumpers and rocker panels are now painted to match the body on all models, rather than molded in a matte finish. In total, the effect is cleaner and more polished than previous models, and it's all quite handsome.  the trim levels are easy to distinguish from the front of the car. The base escape xls has a chrome grille and body-colored fascia from the bumper down. The xlt is identical, except for prominent fog lights in the front bumper. This adds the chrome grille and more, with brightwork flowing down into the skid plate and bumper. It looks like a big, shiny t on the front of the vehicle.  some changes to the new escape are functional more than aesthetic. The side mirrors are larger than before, but ford claims their shape generates less noise as air speeds over them. The roof, too, is designed to reduce interior noise. Recessed channels running its length are intended to move air more quietly over the surface. Horizontal ribs underneath the panel add structure, which limits flex in the metal and reduces booming noise inside at high speeds.  we're fond of a couple of features in back of the escape. A new step pad on the bumper provides secure footing for anyone who steps up to put something on the roof rack, and the two-piece tailgate is handy. The rear glass can be popped open with the key fob, so dropping small items like a gym bag into the cargo area is much easier than it might be with some competitors, which require hefting the entire gate upward. interiorthe 2008 ford escape interior is all new, and we like it. It's not significantly roomier or a leap forward in design, but it's well thought out and well executed. It's a definite improvement in ergonomic function and overall visual appeal, and it makes a nicer place to spend time.  this is one of ford's best interiors in years in terms of the look and feel of materials used. It looked like the lacquered finish on a fine piano. The satiny black or silver used in lower trim levels isn't bad, either. 2007 ford edge review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new crossover utility vehicle on the cutting edge. introductionthe 2007 ford edge is an all-new crossover sport utility that answers the call for a roomy vehicle with utility and style. Nor is it a minivan. Yet it's more than a car.  the edge handles better than the truck-based explorer while offering almost as much cargo space. Benefiting from all-wheel drive and a fully independent suspension, it's easier to control than a truck-based suv in the snow or on wet, slippery roads. Also, getting in and out of both the front and back seats is easier. In fact, the back seats in the edge are roomier than those in the explorer, a benefit of its design.  the edge is not small. It competes with the nissan murano, toyota highlander and other midsize crossover utility vehicles, all of which are larger than they appear.  we found the edge delivered on its promise to be a dual-purpose vehicle. It's roomy and comfortable, and it has fully foldable seats for cargo carrying. It drives well, with good performance from a new v6 engine mated to a new six-speed transmission.  the edge has a modern look we find appealing and its bold chrome grille adds to its presence. We're certain most will view the edge as an edgy suv more than a car. That's no doubt intentional, designed to be appealing for drivers moving from a traditional suv who want a rugged look with room for the family and assorted stuff. Meanwhile, those who are moving across from a sedan will find they have not given up too much in the way of comfort and convenience and driving dynamics. lineupall ford edge models are powered by a brand-new 3. 5-liter v6 engine producing 265 horsepower. It is coupled to a new six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive (awd) is also available.  the ford edge se 25,320) includes cloth seats, power windows with driver one-touch down, remote keyless entry, am/fm/cd/mp3. The se is available with awd 26,970).  the sel 27,315) and sel awd 28,965) come with upgraded seat materials, an aluminum surround on the instrument panel, automatic headlights, an auto dimming rearview mirror, fog lamps, dual chrome exhaust tips, and a body colored rear spoiler, mirrors and door handles.  the sel plus 29,070) adds a premium package with leather trimmed seats with memory, dual electronic climate control system, exterior puddle lamps, heated seats and exterior mirrors, a particulate air filter, and audio controls on the steering wheel. The seating flexibility package is also included which adds the remote release rear seat back and folding front passenger seat. The sel plus is also available with awd 30,720).  options for the sel include the vista roof 1,395), 18-inch wheels 395), reverse sensing system 245), navigation system 2,380), sirius satellite radio 195), and a cargo management system 65).  safety features that come standard on all models include seat-mounted side-impact air bags for the front seats and side curtain airbags with rollover protection for both rows of seating, the mandated front airbags, anti-lock brakes with advancetrac electronic stability control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. walkaroundwhen we first saw the ford edge we were surprised to discover it is much bigger than it appears in photographs. The reason is immediately apparent, it has a very wide track and a longish wheelbase. More important, this is not just about looks. A long wheelbase and wide track make for a more stable vehicle because the mass of the vehicle is inside the wheels. A go-kart is the ultimate expression of this look. We're not suggesting the edge looks like a go-kart, but its aggressive stance makes it stand apart from the tippy look of traditional suvs with relatively narrow track measurements and massive front and rear overhangs.  the edge features ford's newly rediscovered bold, american design. The big chrome grille is placed well forward and has wide chrome slats that merge into the relatively small headlights at each side. The high hood is short as the windshield rakes forward more like a sports car or modern minivan.  despite having a relatively high waist line with shallow side windows, the edge does not appear as stubby as photographs sometimes suggest. The sporty look is helped by pronounced fender flares and large wheels. The rear tailgate slopes quite significantly and is nicely rounded, avoiding the truck-like rear tailgates found on many suvs. We found the rear design to be a cross between a lexus rx and a bmw x3, which cannot be a bad thing.  to top it all off, the optional vista roof adds expansive twin glass moonroofs that cover the whole roof providing all passengers with a clear view of the sky. There is only a foot-wide panel between the front and rear panels that is not transparent. interiorutility used to mean just the ability to carry stuff. Comfort and style were secondary, even mutually exclusive. The edge manages to provide plenty of utility and a stylish, comfortable interior. Starting at the back, the tailgate lifts to reveal a wide opening. And even when the rear seats are in place there's a reasonable amount of cargo room.  pressing a button automatically reclines the rear seats to give a total of nearly 70 cubic feet of storage on a nearly flat floor. Furthermore, the front passenger seatback can be folded forward to provide a mostly level floor space for long objects all the way to the dashboard. Headroom is also reasonable in the rear, even with the optional sky vista roof. The rear-center passenger even gets more room than normal in a vehicle of this size, thanks to the wide track. Getting in and out is easier due to the rear wheels being placed well back allowing for less intrusion from the wheel well.  front-seat occupants find a generous amount of room, again largely due to the vehicle's generous width. There is a large center console with a storage box big enough for a laptop computer. There are two decent cupholders alongside the substantial looking transmission shifter. The edge is based off the same platform as the ford fusion and the mazda6, regarded as one of the best handling midsize sedans. So the edge starts life with a good base. Ford says it purposely designed the edge to deliver a slightly softer ride. Those who have driven both vehicles concur with this assessment.  ford's all-new 3. 5-liter v6 engine has variable valve timing and is much smoother and more refined than its previous v6s. The new engine is mated to a new six-speed automatic transmission developed with general motors. We found the engine produced a good range of power at all speeds and the transmission shifted smoothly. We would rate the performance as middle of the pack: it's neither a barnburner nor a slug.  we found the rack-and-pinion steering provided good feedback with precise control. The edge we drove had all-wheel drive and the optional 18-inch wheels helped make the car more sure-footed. We did not get a chance to drive a base model but suspect it will still be more than acceptable despite having slightly less grip.  the all-wheel-drive system is simple, with a viscous coupling in the middle of the driveshaft that constantly alters the power to the front or rear depending on the need at any given time.  the edge is not designed for off-road use yet it has a decent ground clearance of eight inches and ford even specifies its approach angle (16 inches), departure angle (24. 5 inches), and ramp break over angle (17 degrees), specifications usually reserved for off-road vehicles. We think it'll be fine for unpaved roads. Ford's advancetrac electronic stability control is standard on all models. It operates via the abs to control wheel slippage when the driver pushes the vehicle beyond the limit in slippery conditions or in emergency avoidance situation on a dry highway. summarythere's no denying that the ford e. 2009 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Redesigned for 2009. introductionpickups are the automotive landscape for bragging rights, best-in-class superlatives, and sales volume. All are capable of work or play, even those models with luxurious interiors.  three v8 engines of two sizes are offered, including a flex-fuel unit that will run on e85 (ethanol). Yet even the least-expensive f-150 isn't boring; it leaves room for customization, does the work required and keeps overhead down.  2009 marks the introduction of the platinum model, a further step up in fancy from the lariat or king ranch choices and bringing the total variety count to seven. Although that makes the total number of builds and choices mind-boggling, believe it or not it has been simplified.  with one of the deepest beds in the half-ton pickup segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,030 pounds. Supercab trucks add higher fx4 and lariat trim levels, and a 5. 6-foot short-bed option on all but xl models. The flareside bed can not be combined with xl or lariat supercabs. A long-bed supercab is available only with the heavy-duty 5. 4-liter package. Most higher-line trucks come with a three-valve-per-cylinder version of the 4. 6-liter rated at 292 hp and a six-speed automatic transmission that gets slightly better mileage by one-half to one mpg. This package is used for the high-mileage sfe model, a 2wd rated at 15/21.  a 5. 4-liter flex-fuel v8 is the largest offered and comes with the six-speed automatic. It is rated at 310 hp and 365 lb-ft on gasoline (epa 14/20 mpg) and 320 hp and 390 lb-ft on e85 with mileage dropped to 10/14 mpg. The base f-150 xl 21,095) is a standard bed, regular cab two-wheel drive. It comes with 17-inch steel wheels, black bumper/grille/mirrors, and vinyl upholstery and floor covering. Options are primarily mechanical or minor convenience upgrades.  stx (from $23,895) models add body-color bumpers over a black grille, cd player, and cloth seats with driver lumbar, more equipment is available, including 18-inch wheels, sirius radio, sync, cruise control, fog lamps and power mirrors.  the top-selling model has traditionally been the xlt (from $25,065) which adds chrome for bumpers and trim, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, automatic headlamps, carpeting, cruise control, power windows and locks, better cloth upholstery and on longer cabs the 3-valve 4. 6-liter v8 and six-speed automatic transmission. All manner of options are available on the xlt, including three sizes of wheels, tailgate step, cargo management and towing equipment.  for off-road enthusiasts the fx4 (from $33,630) returns to a black grille with body-colored bumpers, trim and mirrors. Chrome trim and bumpers highlight monotone paint, and the lariat adds heated mirrors with signal repeaters and auto-dimming on the driver's and inside, dual-zone climate control, heated power leather seats with driver memory, leather wheel with redundant audio controls, tow package, sync, trip computer, and power adjustable pedals. Options include 20-inch wheels, heated/cooled front seats, sony sound and navigation, trailer brake controller, rear camera and park sensors, and moonroof.  the king ranch (from $38,840) is like a lariat with a different attitude. It adds two-tone paint and kr badges, unique wheels, mesh chrome grille, chaparral leather heated/cooled power captains chairs with driver memory, running boards, and power folding, heated, signal outside mirrors with chrome caps. Options are essentially limited to a limited-slip differential, alternative axle ratios, 20-inch wheels, sony sound and navigation systems, moonroof, chrome tube running boards and remote start.  at the top of the 2009 range is the platinum supercrew 40,440-$43,885). This gets a unique satin chrome front grille and the only one not styled as three sections, body-color bumpers and wheel lip moldings, 20-inch wheels, power-deploy/retract running boards, satin chrome tailgate trim, tuxedo-stitched leather power captains chairs, wood grain and brushed aluminum trim, rain-sensing wipers, power fold/heated mirrors, and unique console. It will start with the 310-hp 5. 4-liter v8 and later get a high-performance engine option, but it is the long-travel high-performance suspension, wheels and tires that set it apart. The only factory pickups that are remotely near the high-speed off-road ability of the raptor are dodge's power wagon and the tundra rock warrior.  the option list has been simplified this year but still resembles tax code to the uninitiated; there are, for example, three codes for a sliding rear window and five for trailer towing mirrors. Most options are dependent on the model and other options, some standard on more expensive models, and listed below by price range. A rear-seat dvd entertainment system is conspicuous by its absence.  safety features that come standard include antilock brakes, stability control (advancetrac rsc) with trailer sway control, frontal airbags, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags.

2007 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A family favorite with a strong record for safety. introductionford explorer is a traditional midsize suv with body-on-frame construction. Available with v6 or v8 power, it competes against the chevy trailblazer, jeep grand cherokee, toyota 4runner, and nissan pathfinder.  explorer was completely redesigned for the 2006 model year and we were pleased with the new steering, the new suspension, and the new brakes, all of which were vastly improved over the previous-generation. The latest explorer is quieter than previous models, and it rides better. It also leans less in corners and the brakes are more responsive. The rear seats fold flatter, and the interior has been improved throughout. More important, it's a very nice vehicle that's pleasant to live with and it compares well with the competition.  with the v8 engine, the explorer is rated to tow up to a whopping 7,300 pounds; that's about as much as a jeep grand cherokee with a hemi. And explorer is rated to carry up to 1,520 pounds of payload.  explorer earned the best possible impact protection rating in the government's crash tests: five stars for the driver in a frontal impact, the front-seat passenger in a frontal impact, front-seat occupants in a side impact, and rear-seat occupants in a side impact. (this was in the national highway traffic safety administration's 2006 model-year new car assessment program.) ford says the explorer is designed to meet all known federal frontal- and side-impact crash requirements through 2010.  for 2007, ford has simplified the model lineup. The safety canopy side air-curtain system is now standard on eddie bauer and limited. An auxiliary audio input jack is now standard, and power-retracting running boards and heated windshield wipers are available. And the available rear-seat dvd entertainment center comes with a larger, eight-inch screen.  the most important change for 2007 might be the new interior door handles, of all things. We found the door pulls on the 2006 models awkward, traceable to thick armrests engineered for crash protection. This situation has been improved for 2007.  though car-based suvs, or crossovers, such as the ford edge are gaining in popularity for their smoother ride, better handling, and easier interior access, the explorer remains a good choice for families that tow. Explorer's truck-based chassis gives it towing capability, while its clever independent rear suspension smoothes the ride for back-seat passengers. lineupthe 2007 ford explorer lineup comprises the xlt 2wd 25,300), xlt 4wd 27,595), eddie bauer 2wd 28,300), eddie bauer 4wd 30,595), limited 2wd 31,400), and limited 4wd 33,659). Xlt options include leather seating surfaces with heated front seats 995), heated windshield 300), and navigation 2,505). A power-folding third row is optional on all models. The third-row seat comes standard on the limited, but can be deleted for credit (-$375), providing a flatter cargo floor.  other options include a power glass sunroof 850); rear-seat dvd entertainment 1,295); power adjustable pedals 150); rear heat and air conditioning 675), sirius satellite radio 195); and power-retractable running boards 695).  safety features include the same roll stability control system already used by volvo and land rover. It intervenes with throttle and brakes when the computer senses an impending tip over. Other safety features standard on all explorers are seat-mounted side-impact air bags, adaptive energy-absorbing steering column, and passenger classifier in the front passenger seat. Safety canopy air bags, standard on limited and bauer, are optional 560) on xlt. walkaroundup front, ford explorer looks like an f-150 pickup with finer, scaled-down features. At the same time, its generous use of chrome, big-and-bold lamps, and square-cornered aero mirrors make this latest-generation explorer look more like a lexus suv than a ford, and we mean that in the most complimentary way.  between the elaborate lamps front and back, however, explorer is a big, empty box with five large doors and a whole bunch of space inside.  each explorer trim level presents its own visual personality. There are dark wood accents in most models and darker, richer wood for the eddie bauer version. The graphics are accented with metal surrounds both shiny and matte. On the downside, we saw a fair amount of glare reflected off the dash top onto the windshield.  the seats are at once more supportive and more comfortable than in older explorers, where we found them a bit hard. The colors and trims and combinations are elegant and tasteful, the metallic trims just about right, not overdone.  second-row seats are available as a 60/40 split bench with recline adjustment, or as two bucket seats and a console. The bucket seats are more comfortable for adults, but the bench seats fold down better for cargo.  the third row, when ordered, sits almost two inches higher than in an '05 or earlier explorer, so kids can see out better. The third row is always a 50/50 split, but is available with manual or power folding and unfolding.  the cargo floor is completely flat when all the seats are folded, with almost no forward rise (2 degrees as opposed to 10 in older models). The five-seater has slightly more room with the seats folded.  the dvd-based navigation system is very easy to use, with excellent colors and graphics, and a big eight-inch display.  the interior door handles are awkward to use, though this improves with familiarity. driving impressiontwo engines are available for the ford explorer. Both powertrains are smooth and quiet. With the lighter v6, the explorer is a bit easier to turn and maneuver, but both engines are pleasant and competent. It meets federal tier ii, bin 4 emissions requirements for ultra low emissions vehicle ii (ulev ii) status. It develops 292 horsepower, and 300 pound-feet of torque. The v8 delivers low emissions as well, meeting the tier ii, bin 5 federal standard, which is compliant with california's low emissions vehicle ii (lev ii) standard. The suspension is relatively supple, giving the explorer a nice ride on rough streets. Yet the explorer does not lean excess. 2010 ford mustang review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Completely redesigned, better handling, more power. introductionthe ford mustang is all-new for 2010. Everything but the roof on the 2010 mustang is new. And it's all good, all improved over the superb 2004-2009 version of america's pony car.  we found the 2010 mustangs quieter and more refined than the previous models. More important, the 2010 mustang gt is an absolute blast to drive, quick off the mark with a brawny sound. The clutch pedal is light and easy to use in heavy traffic and the manual sifts smoothly. The handling is crisp, the suspension feels tight, and the brakes work better in this latest generation.  the mustang has been in continuous production for 45 straight years, and more than 9 million mustangs have been built and sold to date. That gives the mustang the longest production run of any single model in ford history.  the 2010 ford mustang comes in three body styles: coupe, convertible, and a glass-roof coupe. Each is available in both the traditional v-6 model and the v8-powered mustang gt. Both engines will be available with a choice of a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.  the v-6 coupe and convertible feature an upgraded 4. 0-liter v6 engine rated at 210 horsepower and 240 foot-pounds of torque. The v-6 model comes standard with 17-inch wheels and tires, with 18-inch wheels optional. A rear stabilizer bar now comes standard on the v-6 models, and the entire suspension system has been retuned for more performance feel.  the mustang gt gets a more powerful v8 for 2010, producing 315 horsepower and 325 foot-pounds of torque from 4. 6 liters.  ford's sync electronics, navigation with sirius travel link and a rear-facing camera are among the options never before available on the mustang. lineupthe mustang v-6 coupe starts at $20,995, and the v-6 convertible at $25,995. Pricing for the gt v-8 coupe starts at $27,995, with the gt v-8 convertible at $32,995. (manufacturer's suggested retail prices do not include $850 destination charges.)  options include the five-speed automatic transmission 995), the glass roof option 1995), a navigation package 2195).  a premium package 3000) upgrades with leather six-way power driver seat with power lumbar and two-way adjustable head restraint, bright shift knob, door trim panel inserts, leather wrapped steering wheel w/aluminum spokes, six-gauge cluster w/mycolor, gloss paint center stack and console, satin door speaker surrounds, ambient lighting, bright aluminum accent dash appliques, pedal covers, scuff plates and shifter knob, special wheels, shaker 500 am/fm/6cd mp3 audio system, eight speakers, sirius satellite radio, sync communications system, and split-folding rear seats.  an optional track package includes upgraded front brakes, a recalibrated advancetrac system that allows later intervention, and the 3. 73:1 axle ratio. Track package ii will include pirelli 19-inch tires and wheels, upgraded front and rear brakes and heavier springs, shock absorbers and brakes along with recalibrated traction and yaw control systems designed for weekend racing. They tell us it is 12 percent quieter in wind noise than the outgoing car, 15 percent quieter in the case of the convertible. Ford also points to a 33 percent reduction in squeak and rattle performance, and a 10 percent improvement in speech intelligibility due to interior noise reductions, especially in the convertible.  the 3500-pound mustang uses welded steel unibody construction with front and rear subframes to mount the steering and suspension systems, with almost half the body weight in high-strength low-alloy steel. interiorinside, we found the front bucket seats significantly more comfortable and better looking than the slabs used in the 2009 models. Altogether, the 2010 mustang is much more refined than any previous model when it comes to noise, a much more comfortable car to be in, whether cruising or a full throttle.  the 2010 mustang has a completely new chiseled approach to interior design, with throwback instrument design complemented by softer-feeling surfaces throughout, and the use of real aluminum plates on the fascias, pedal covers, scuff plates and shifter knob. Interior ambient lighting in the door pockets, cupholders and footwells is a new interior feature, and the lighting colors can be changed through a range of 125 colors with the flip of a switch with the new mycolor system.  new interior and entertainment features for mustang include a rear-facing video camera, the sync voice-activated hands-free system for the first time in a mustang, featuring sirius satellite radio and satellite navigation with sirius travel link. The new leather-clad steering wheel is a massive affair with six brushed metal spokes in three groups of two, with cruise controls switches and controls for the sound system, a wheel that gives a very big feeling of command. The leather interiors are of a higher grade than ever, the console can now be locked to hide valuables. The instrument panel is made in a single piece.  we found the new mustang is much quieter than the old car, with improvements in wind noise, road noise, mirror noise and powertrain noise. The radio antenna is moved to the rear to eliminate noise, the wiper design is changed to flatter blades that don't make as much noise, the washer nozzles are inside the hood, and the mirrors are reshaped. The redline has been raised 250 rpm to 6500 rpm for 2010. The engine has two built-in calibrations for regular or premium fuel (the use of premium fuel adds up to 10 foot-pounds of torque between 1000 and 3000 rpm, they tell us).  the new engine gets its cold intake air from a system built into the grille, not under the hood, the lowest-restriction air intake system ever on the mustang, with an air induction sound pipe that goes right into the cockpit to make it more pleasing to the driver at full throttle. Ford says the fresh air system alone is worth three tenths of a second in 0-60 mph acceleration improvement because the engine makes much more power with cold air. On the exhaust side, the v-8 version gets 3. 5-inch exhaust pipes versus 3. 0-inch pipes on the last mustang, and the v-6 version gets 3. 0-inch exhaust pipes instead of 2. 5-inch pipes. The standard axle ratio is 3. 31:1, with two optional ratios, 3. 55:1 or 3. 73:1, which automatically comes with larger brakes.  the gt chassis has been upgraded and stiffened using parts and pieces from the 2009 bullitt mustang, which means it rides tauter, turns in quicker and has less pitch, dive and body roll than any previous mustang, as much as 20 percent less body roll. The gt rides on 235/50r18 tires, with 245/45r19 tires optional. If the 19-inch tire and wheel option is selected, the car will automatically be built with a strut tower brace under the hood to connect the two front struts for more strength and better, more accurate handling.  the new tires, whether 17-, 18-, or 19-inch, have been chosen for their much higher levels of both wet and dry grip, and ford says the 19-inch tires can produce skidpad performance exceeding 0. 9g, which is very, very good for such a low-priced car.  abs brakes, traction control and advancetrac yaw control are standard on all models. For track work, both the traction control and the yaw control can be turned off (but not the abs), and there is a sport mode which allows higher handling limits before traction and yaw controls are called in to save the day.  with all of that as prelude, the gt v-8 is an absolute blast to drive. Traffic on sunset boulevard.  in the canyons north of l. A., the mustang showed off more new moves than the entire cast of dancing with the stars, extremel. Bucket Seats✔ AM/FM✔ Alloy Wheels

2013 ford escape review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, featuring fuel-efficient ecoboost engines. introductionthe 2013 ford escape is a total redesign that moves the top-selling compact suv into the times, with high-tech small engines, a smooth 6-speed transmission, aerodynamic front styling, and electronic wizardry. Ford claims 11 features exclusive to the escape in the compact suv class, everything from a capless fuel nozzle to torque vectoring control, which helps the escape corner more securely.  gas prices have fueled the compact suv market (in europe it's quadrupled in the last decade), so this is a class that's important to ford's ongoing rebound, and they've pulled out all the stops to make the escape good.  fuel mileage varies from an epa-estimated 23 city/33 highway mpg with the 1. 6-liter front-wheel drive escape to 21/28 mpg with the 2. 0-liter all-wheel drive. We drove both versions and fell below those marks, however, averaging 22. 7 mpg in the 1. 6-liter and 19. 7 mpg in the 2. 0-liter, while driving them spiritedly. That's still better than a comparably equipped honda cr-v or toyota rav4, and good enough that the escape hybrid has been abandoned.  the 2013 escape lineup features three engines, including the returning tried-and-true 2. 5-liter, less powerful and efficient but with a lower msrp than the new ecoboost engines. There's a 1. 6-liter making 178 horsepower and 2. 0-liter making 240 hp, both twin-turbos with direct injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing (ti-vct), although having different designs.  this review is a tale of two escapes, because we found the 1. 6-liter fwd to feel completely different from the 2. 0-liter awd. The 1. 6 is quick, lively and visceral, a blast to drive. The 2. 0-liter awd feels more grownup, civilized, solid, heavy. The chassis is 40 percent stiffer, and the ride is smooth. The interior materials are soft, and the plastic high quality. Rear legroom is decent, at 36. 8 inches, and rear climate control is standard in all but the base s model. There's excellent cargo space, 68. 1 cubic feet behind the first row and 34. 3 cubic feet behind the second row, and the standard 60/40 rear seat folds flat wonderfully fast, with one lever.  the nose of the new 2013 escape is distinctive, sort of aero stubby, with the blue oval emblem in its wide narrow grille to say it's a ford. Although the escape emulates its big brother the explorer suv, its new nose more resembles its little brother the focus hatchback. The hood has nice character lines, and the headlights sweep sharply back and up into muscular wheelwells.  one clever innovation that others are already copying is an available magic release for the liftgate. The new version, as they say, is simpler and the screen is cleaner. And to be sure, we have, at times, gotten it to work for us. Last but not least, the price for the escape has actually come down. It adds ambient lighting, remote start, premium leather, hid headlamps, power liftgate, silver roofrails, backup sensor, upgraded sony sound system with hd radio, and 19-inch painted alloy wheels.  standard safety equipment includes advancetrac traction and stability control with roll stability control, curve control, torque vectoring control, two-stage frontal airbags, driver knee airbag, side airbags, abs with brake assist, tire pressure monitor. walkaroundthere's no mistaking that the 2013 escape is a new car, and it's got the blue oval in its wide narrow grille to say it's a ford. Its nose is more like little sister focus, rather than big brother explorer. Aero and almost stubby, looking like it's meant for the business of efficient hauling. Character lines on the hood suggesting a cowl. The headlights are sharply angled under sheetmetal speed lines like eyebrows, and sweep back and up into the muscular wheelwells.  the bottom two-thirds of the face is a gaping black mouth in split fascia. It conceals a ford innovation, sensor-controlled shutters behind the grille that regulate air into the engine for optimum efficiency and maximum fuel mileage.  the rear end doesn't keep up with the new slick front. It looks big and bulky for the size of the car, with lines going in three directions; it's as if the sheetmetal were shaped to match the taillights, including the indent for the license plate, like an upside-down triangle with the point at bottom chopped off. The standard dual exhaust is cool with the pipes back there, but the cladding in gray looks like a big silver lump hanging out the back.  but there's something hiding under that cladding that's great. It's a first we like, and would buy.  we also like that overall on the three models, there's lots of black eggcrate and not so much chrome. Don't like so much the gray or black plastic cladding that surrounds every model. The 19-inch alloy wheels try way too hard to look out there, while the steel 17s on the base se are the least ugly. interiorthe rugged fabric seats are the best! And since the available myfordtouch remains problematic (we'll get to that), those excellent seats open the door to happy purchase of the s model. Gauges are clean and attractive with pretty blue needles. Unlike the expensive jaguar, ford's rich former sibling, there are actual fuel and temperature gauges. There's a small rectangular window for information, scrolled through using arrows and a dial on the steering wheel, like all fords, and like jaguar, the shared switchgear remains.  the turn signal sound is a classy jaguar-like dink dink dink. Great job, there.  a small shift lever is dropped down out of the way. There's a selectshift button on the side of the lever, controlling manual operation of the automatic transmission. We've complained about this same button on the mustang Climate Control✔ Cruise Control✔ Remote Start✔ Alloy Wheels

2005 ford explorer sport trac review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The 2004 ford explorer sport trac combines the interior room and comfort of a mid-size suv with the open-air, haul-anything capability of a mid-size pickup truck. Sport trac is an suv with a pickup bed. It allows for the seating capacity of a mid-sized suv but the potential hauling capacity of a pickup truck. All are powered by a 4. 0-liter v6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission. Options include a six-way power driver's seat with power lumbar support, an upgraded floor console, an overhead console with displays for compass and outside temperature, automatic headlamps, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. For 2005, there are no significant changes.

2010 ford explorer review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. For many years, the ford explorer has been one of the best-selling suvs in the market. Two powertrain combinations are available: a 210-hp 4. 0-liter v6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission is standard on all trims, while a 292-hp 4. 6-liter v8 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission is optional on the eddie bauer and limited. Explorer xlt trims are well-equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, cruise control and mp3 capability; eddie bauer trims add unique two-tone exterior accents, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, leather upholstery and a third row of seating, along with satellite radio and the sync communication system with bluetooth wireless connectivity. Limited trims are further outfitted with 18-inch chrome-clad wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded audio with 6cd changer, power-folding third-row seat and a reverse sensing system. Standard safety features on every explorer include advancetrac with roll stability control, traction control, anti-lock disc brakes and a tire pressure monitor, as well as dual front, front side-impact and side-curtain airbags. For 2010, the ford explorer carries over with minor adjustments to standard equipment and a restructured ordering strategy. A manual-folding third-row seat is now standard on eddie bauer trims, providing seating for up to seven passengers. Additionally, all-wheel drive explorer models are no longer offered in the eddie bauer trim level. Climate Control✔ Cruise Control✔ Air Conditioning✔ Bluetooth✔ Alloy Wheels
