2006 dodge charger review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new sedan harkens to performance heritage. introductionthe dodge charger is dead, long live the dodge charger. The market will provide the answers, or for that matter, determine whether answers are needed.  as for the car itself, no doubt it doesn't really care. It's a bold design statement, however it's viewed, a blend of throwback cues and modern form architecture. Whether it pleases matters less than whether it draws attention. The charger has all the pavement-ripping, gut-thumping power of the old muscle cars, but is packaged with modern creature comforts and tempered by startling levels of handling competency. Three engines are available, a 250-horsepower, 3. 5-liter v6; a 340-hp, 5. 7-liter v8; and a 350-hp, 5. 7-liter v8. All come with a five-speed, autostick automatic.  the entry-level charger is the se, fitted with the v6 22,320). Cloth upholstery is standard, but the se isn't lacking in creature and driver comforts. Among them: air conditioning; cruise control; tilt-and-telescope steering wheel; soft-finish urethane-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; floor mats; power door locks, outside mirrors, windows and remote trunk release; two power points; driver and passenger lumbar adjustment; and am/fm/cd stereo with auxiliary input jack. Steel wheels with bolt on covers wear black sidewall, all-season, p215/65r17 tires. The protection group 590) adds front and rear side-curtain airbags, cabin air filtration and self-sealing tires. Also available: an engine block heater 40); a smoker's group 30) that adds a lighter and ash tray. Options include leather-trimmed seats 640), a power sunroof 950), power adjustable pedals 125), six-disc cd changer and mp3 capability 400), satellite radio with one-year subscription 195), rear-seat entertainment system 1150), bluetooth capability 360). Also available: 18-inch polished aluminum wheels with p225/60r all-season tires coupled with a sportier suspension 325). In addition to the protection group and smokers group, there's a comfort seating group with heated front seats, leather-trimmed bucket seats, power adjustable pedals and 8-way power front passenger seat 1395).  the charger r/t 29,320) is a v8-powered, high-performance model. Outside mirrors now fold and are heated, too. Front brake rotors add an inch in diameter to the sxt's and se's 12. 6 inches and spin between twin-piston calipers, and rear discs are vented. A tire pressure monitoring system appears, and the 18-inch, polished aluminum wheels become regular issue. The fuel tank gains capacity, to 19 gallons. And a dual exhaust debuts, with bright metal tips. Stand-alone options originating on the r/t consist of a dvd-based navigation system integrated into the stereo control head 1895) and a seven-speaker boston acoustic setup with a 322-watt amplifier and subwoofer 535). Convenience group ii includes dual-zone, automatic climate control; heated front seats; power adjustable pedals; 8-way power front passenger seat; and one-touch, automatic up and down power windows with anti-pinch auto-reverse 955). The electronics convenience group adds a security alarm, programmable universal garage door opener, trip computer, selectable vehicle information display, compass and a set of steering wheel-mounted, redundant audio controls 630). Behind the fun tab of the option book is the road/track performance group, what some who remember the ultimate stealth muscle car of the 1960s might call the road runner edition, as in, more go, less show: unique aluminum wheels with black accents, sportier steering, self-leveling shocks, sport seats, performance suspension and, the kicker piece, a tweaked v8 making 350 horsepower 1600).  safety features that come standard on all charger models include antilock brakes, all-speed. walkaroundin many ways, the newest charger isn't much sleeker, or more aerodynamic than the original. Knocked off from the 1966 dodge coronet, and despite its fastback, two-door hardtop styling, that charger was somewhat blocky, with squared-off front end, superficially sculpted slab sides and equally vertical backside. There was the barest hint of a so-called coke bottle look, with the body sides slightly pinched in about where there would have been a b-pillar. Not until the 1968 model year was any attention paid to moving the car rapidly through the air with minimal disturbance. The 2006 charger starts at much the same place on the automotive styling evolutionary curve.  and for good reason. The same design team that parented the chrysler 300 and dodge magnum birthed this new charger. The charger is built on the same platform as those two, but is three inches longer overall. The charger reportedly was planned all along to be a sedan version of the magnum.  with this legacy, it's no surprise that there's an uprightness to the charger's silhouette, regardless of viewing angle. The front end, in fact, tilts forward, as if it's leaning into the wind, specifically to recall the brutish, pre-aero-age styling of its muscle car era namesake. The trademark dodge crosshairs, chromed on the sxt and r/t, body-color in the se and srt8 and flat black on the daytona, dominate the front end. Compound halogen headlights peer out under hooded, almost scowling brows. A thin, trifurcated air intake slices across the lower portion of the front bumper, beneath which the daytona and srt8 wear a trim, flat-black chip spoiler. Fog lamps on the sxt and higher models fill small, sculpted insets at the lower corners.  from the side, the demi-fastback roofline and glasshouse look more grafted onto the somewhat fulsome body than a natural extension of the overall styling theme, very much as if the designer were trying to make a sedan look like a coupe. The beltline arcs softly back from a slight droop over the headlights to about midway in the rear side window, then kicks up over the rear quarter panel, visually bulking up the car's already hefty haunches. Flip-up, top-hinged door handles are flush mounted but operate sufficiently friendly to pose no major threats to fingernails.  the rear perspective shows a tall, almost vertical backside, with large taillights draped over the upper corners. A modest, kamm-like lip stretches across the trailing edge of an expansive trunk lid, atop which sits a lift-suppressing spoiler on the daytona and srt8. A recess in the bumper holds the license plate. On the se and sxt a single exhaust tip exits beneath the right-hand side, while the v8-powered models sport chrome-tipped, muscle car-idiom, dual exhausts.  the charger's styling is loosely reflected on nascar's nextel cup cars, primarily seen in the crosshair grille and the painted-on taillights. interiormuch of what holds about the charger's exterior carries over to its interior, only more so. Where the outside only suggests other chrysler and dodge cars, the inside looks as if it's been lifted, locks, steering column and bucket seats from the magnum, with a fixture and feature here and there brought over from a dakota or a durango.  the dash and instrument cluster is identical to the magnum's, with the minor exception of surface trims on the center stack and center console, and when ordered on the r/t, the navigation display. This isn't to complain, but to compliment, as the arrangement is pleasantly informative. From the driver's seat, easily scanned, large, round speedometer and tachometer share the top half of the steering wheel opening, with fuel and coolant temperature gauges down in the left and right corners, respectively. The steering wheel, too, comes directly from the magnum. Air conditioning registers fill the top of the center stack, above the stereo/navigation display, with the climat.

2005 dodge dakota review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, bigger, with the only optional v8 in the class. introductionthe all-new 2005 dodge dakota represents yet another bold move into the truck market for dodge. With sales of basic small trucks in steady decline, dodge has redesigned the dakota as a much larger, much edgier and more macho midsize pickup. The dakota is now the largest and by far the most powerful pickup in the segment.  dakota competes against ford ranger, chevrolet colorado, gmc canyon, toyota tacoma, and nissan frontier. As with full-size pickups, competition for compact or mid-size trucks is hot. Though the ranger is dated, canyon, colorado, tacoma, and frontier are totally new pickups for either 2004 or 2005. Dakota's biggest advantage, other than its larger size, is the availability v8 engines, not one, but two of them. Its towing capacity has been expanded to 7,150 pounds, by far the most in the class.  built on a new frame, the new dakota is substantially longer than the previous model with styling that complements the recently redesigned durango suv and ram pickup. Getting in is easy and the redesigned interior is comfortable and convenient with controls that are easy to reach and operate.  underway, the dakota is smooth and quiet. The optional 4. 7-liter v8 burbles subtly in the background when cruising, but really scoots when the throttle is mashed. Yet its fuel economy is rated within 1 mpg of the standard v6's. The steering is light for easy maneuverability in crowded parking lots. Standard-cab pickups have faded in popularity as families are increasingly using pickups for recreation and as a transportation alternative to a car. So dodge doesn't even offer a regular cab dakota.  either body style and all three trim levels come standard with a 3. 7-liter v6. A 4. 7-liter magnum v8 engine 785) is available on all models. A high-output version of the 4. 7-liter v8 is available for the slt and laramie trim levels. Both bodies are built on the same wheelbase. Club cabs now feature small doors to access the rear compartment, which the old model did not have.  club cab and quad cab are available in st, slt, or lariat trim levels. The st trim level comes standard with 16-inch wheels. Slt adds 16-inch aluminum wheels, fog lamps, tilt steering, dual rear seats, and power windows, locks and mirrors. In addition, the mopar aftermarket parts side of chrysler will have dozens of appearance, performance and entertainment options that can be installed at the dealership before or after delivery. The dakota retains the look of the dodge ram and durango, though it looks crisper and the grille is laid back, not vertical. All models come with front and rear tow hooks and tie-downs in the bed.  new to the dakota is an enhanced accident response system or ears, which automatically turns on interior lights and unlocks doors in the event of an air bag deployment, so that medical or response personnel can help faster and easier. interiorjust about everything on the inside of the dakota is new. There are new black-on-white gauges with chrome rings, with the central speedometer about twice as large as the other two gauges. The angular center stack houses the sound system, climate controls and vents. The rear seats are deliberately stepped up on their bases so that rear-seat occupants can see out more easily, and they are split into 40/20/40 folding sections with two rear cupholders.  the driver's seat, the only one we occupied for any length of time, looked good and felt good with its upper and lower support wings and good padding where it counts. Interior room, even for a tall, gangly driver like me, was excellent. It's the best in the class with this new cab size. A center console and lots of cubbyholes provide space to stash stuff.  new interior features for the 2005 dakota include standard head restraints and shoulder belts for all seat positions, taller head restraints, optional sirius satellite radio, and an optional hands-free communications system that uses bluetooth technology to make a compatible cellphone work as part of the truck. driving impressionthe test truck, which was configured for five with front bucket seats, was surprisingly quiet, smooth and civil in its behavior, more like a car than a truck inside. The glass is 20 percent thicker, mufflers are larger, and there's more sound insulation throughout the body and firewall than before. It drives bigger than it looks, with a hefty, ram-like way about it, a nicely muscular street swagger.  the 4. 7-liter magnum v8 engine costs a little extra, but for us it was worth every penny, because fuel mileage barely takes a hit (epa-estimated city/highway 15/19 for the v6, 14/19 for the v8). The 3. 7-liter magnum v6 is rated 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. The 4. 7-liter v8 generates 230 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. At highway speeds it settled down into a nice background burble in overdrive fifth gear. Its strong torque means plenty of low-down grunt for pulling payloads of up to 1,800 pounds or towing up to 7,150 pounds.  the transmission has perfectly spaced ratios for trucking, and worked without complaint, roughness or harshness, even in high-rpm full-throttle upshifts. With only two occupants and no load, it really scoots from the stoplight despite the nearly 4800 pound weight of the quad cab 4x4. The chunky steering wheel feels great in the hands. The truck tracks extremely well, responds quickly to inputs, and stays hunkered down during mountain road playtime. Its 265/70r16 bfgoodrich wrangler tires were both grippy in corners and very quiet at highway speeds, adding a measure of plushness to the ride quality that we really appreciated. And the dakota start. Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ Cruise Control✔ Leather Seats✔ Chrome Wheels✔ Bluetooth✔ Aluminum Wheels

2008 dodge durango review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Big and brawny, yet surprisingly refined. introductiondodge durango looks tough but rides smooth. Big and bulky, it handles like a truck, but it's quiet, roomy, and comfortable, with a host of available technology.  this second-generation durango, which first appeared as an '04 model, slips between the chevy tahoe and ford expedition in exterior dimensions.  standard seating is for five, seven or eight (depending on model); optional second-row bucket seats provide six- or seven-passenger capacity. With all seats folded, there's more than 100 cubic feet of cargo space. And a properly equipped durango with the optional hemi engine is rated to tow up to 8,950 pounds.  a v6 is standard, but two v8s are available and both are superb. The flex-fuel 4. 7-liter v8 is upgraded from 235 to 303 horsepower for 2008 without a fuel economy penalty. It can run on gasoline or up to 85 percent ethanol (e85). It's smooth and powerful, but drivers who want or need more can opt for the celebrated 5. 7-liter hemi. Both v8s come with a five-speed automatic transmission that's smooth, refined, and responsive. The 303-hp 4. 7-liter v8 and five-speed automatic are optional 785) for those models, and standard for all others. Dodge's 335-horsepower 5. 7-liter hemi v8 is optional for 2wd slt 1780), awd slt 990) adventurer 990), and limited 795). It comes with a five-speed automatic transmission. A technology group for sxt 1030) includes a six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, remote engine starting, and laminated side glass.  slt 2wd 29,785) and slt awd 33,065) add upgraded yes essentials seat fabric that dodge says is odor and stain resistant, rear air conditioning and heater, eight-way power driver seat, two-passenger third-row folding bench seat, am/fm radio with six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, floormats, fog lights, and 265/60r18 on/off-road tires on alloy wheels. Slt is offered with the technology group ii 2105). It includes rear obstacle detection, rearview camera, alpine sound system, mygig entertainment system that replaces the six-disc cd changer, leather-wrapped steering with radio controls, uconnect wireless cell phone link, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.  the off-road oriented adventurer 2wd 31,710) and adventurer awd 33,930) come with all slt features, plus special off-road equipment that includes tubular side steps, reversible slush mats, a rubberized washable cargo liner with built-in cargo organizer, unique machine-finish wheels and mineral gray moldings and fascias. Adventurer also comes with a thule roof rack with a choice of six rack systems or a unique adventurer accessory kit. This model deletes the six-disc cd changer.  the mygig entertainment system is new for 2008. It includes a 6. 5-inch touchscreen and a 20-gigabyte hard drive to hold songs and pictures. It is included in the technology group ii for slt and adventurer and is standard on limited. The short front and rear overhangs, not typical of a full-size suv, contribute to durango's forceful expression. The short hood and flared fenders give the durango the look of a big-rig truck. That short hood leads into a steeply raked windshield and sloping roof. The front fenders make the hood look as narrow as it is short. Available 20-inch chrome-clad wheels are optional on both the slt and limited. All of these big rims are framed nicely by durango's bold wheel arches. The larger (6x9-inch) rearview mirrors are heated and folding on all models.  the roofline dips slightly at the rear, and the liftgate window curves in to meet it, which keeps durango from looking entirely like a box. Afterburner tail lamps are another dodge hallmark. The center high-mounted stop lamp is integrated smoothly into the rear roofline. A wide chrome applique accentuates the rear liftgate and features a centered, three-dimensional ram's head.  despite its modern aerodynamics, the durango takes its styling cues from the 1946-68 dodge power wagon, which was essentially a world war ii t214 military truck with a longer wheelbase and a civilian-style, fully enclosed cab. Large amounts of glass contribute to that feeling along with lots of cargo space. The yes essentials fabric in slt models is said to be stain, odor, and static-resistant, though we didn't see any mention of dog hair. The slt has orange-hued wood trim, while the limited presents a cleaner look with its brushed aluminum. And that trim is real wood and real aluminum, not plastic.  second-row bucket seats are available to replace the standard 40/20/40 bench. A second-row floor console is part of the bucket-seat package. As a compromise for customers who need to carry five adults, the 40/20/40 bench has a recline feature on all but sxt. Separate rear-seat climate controls are also standard on all but sxt, where they are optional; that's a useful feature when carrying dogs.  details are carefully thought out, including convenient grab handles cleverly molded into the stubby rear leg of the second-row seat, which ease climbing back to the third row. Once back there, a small bubble in the ceiling provides additional headroom for third-row passengers. A one-piece third-row bench is optional on sxt and standard on slt and adventurer. On limited models, the third row is split 60/40 for additional convenience. The second-row seat easily flips forward with the touch of one hand, and the seatback flops flat just as easily. This is no small virtue.  cargo capacity is quite impressive. Behind the second row of seats is 68 cubic feet of cargo space, equal to the total for many suvs. Put the second row down, and there's 102 cubic feet of cargo capacity. The distance between the wheel housings is 48 inches, so full-size sheets of plywood can be loaded flat. Speaking of loading cargo, this task is aided by the liftgate, which opens easily and is power-operated on limited models. The cargo floor is relatively low, thanks to the rear.

2005 dodge ram 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Strong lineup includes viper-powered srt-10. introductionthis may be the golden age of the full-size pickup. Indeed, it's impossible to buy a bad full-size pickup nowadays. The all-new ford f-150 and nissan titan have made headlines. Toyota has a new double cab model, and there are strong entries from chevrolet and gmc. In spite of all this, the dodge ram remains an excellent choice. The cabs are comfortable and convenient, among the roomiest in their respective classes. The quad cab is handy for hauling friends and family but even the standard cab is roomy. Arguably, the ram is the best-looking truck on the market. The styling is bold and handsome, more sophisticated than the previous design.  the hemi v8 engine has drawn much attention for its power and efficiency as well as the heritage its name evokes. It is an exceptionally good engine, smooth and very responsive. Adding to its responsiveness is a five-speed automatic. The popular 4. 7-liter v8 delivers responsive performance. It's also smooth and sophisticated, benefiting from a modern overhead-cam design. The guinness book of world records called the srt-10 the fastest production pickup. lineupdodge ram is available in two cab configurations, regular cab and quad cab. Regular cab models start at $20,180 for a 4x2, $24,285 for a 4x4. Quad cabs start at $24,190 for a 4x2, $28,175 for a 4x4.  two bed lengths are available, a 6-foot, 3-inch standard bed and an 8-foot long-bed. Ordering the long bed adds 20 inches to the wheelbase. Long-bed rams also get a bigger fuel tank, 35 gallons in place of the standard 26-gallon tank. Long beds add $300-$350 to the price.  several engines are offered: most popular is the 4. 7-liter v8, a modern overhead-cam engine. The most powerful engine in the regular lineup is the 5. 7-liter hemi v8, which adds $795 to the price. At the other end of the scale, there's the rip-snortin' 8. 3-liter v10 in the srt-10 models rated 500 horsepower and 525 pound-feet of torque.  new for 2005 is a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment with the 3. 7-liter v6 and 4. 7-liter v8.  st is the base level. It comes standard with air conditioning, but is equipped with wind-up windows, manual door locks, and vinyl upholstery.  slt adds $1,700-$3,200, depending on cab style and driveline. It comes standard with the 4. 7-liter v8, and adds cloth upholstery, nicer interior trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a host of convenience items, and wider tires.  laramie is the top trim level, with leather seating surfaces, dual-zone air conditioning, a premium stereo, 17-inch cast aluminum wheels, and a long list of luxury features. Offered in two packages, laramie retails for $7,800-$8,900 more than the base trim level.  sport trim, available for most models, includes fog lights, 17-inch aluminum wheels, body-colored exterior trim, and special interior trim. Aggressive 20-inch wheels and tires are also available.  the srt-10 is available in both regular cab 45,000) and quad cab 50,000) models for 2005.  a power sunroof with one-touch open and close features is a new option for 2005 quad cab models. Sirius satellite radio is available for 2005 quad cabs as well. A new uconnect hands-free cellular telephone system that can communicate with bluetooth-enabled cell phones is available, and there's a new integrated radio/navigation system.  the off-road package 870-$1,405) comes with unique 17-inch aluminum wheels on lt275/70r17 off-road tires, 3. 92 rear axle, limited-slip differential, skid plates for the transfer case and front suspension, special shocks, tow hooks, fog lamps, and a heavy-duty cooling system.  the work special package is designed to deliver affordability with gray bumpers, grille, and 17x7 steel wheels. walkaroundthe dodge ram presents a bold, distinctive appearance with its big horse-collar grille and freightliner fenders. The basic look goes back 10 years, but received a major redesign for 2002. Modern and contemporary, the current design improved on the best of the previous, ground-breaking design. We think it looks terrific. 2005 brings new rear badging, including a chrome ram's head on the center of the tailgate.  few grilles are as instantly recognizable as the ram's massive horse collar. The color of the grille provides trim-level identification: the outside rim is all chrome on slts, with a gray honeycomb center. Laramie models are distinguished by an all-chrome grille surround and chrome billet grille center, along with chrome bodyside moldings. Sport trim features a body-colored grille surround and body-colored crosshairs with unique chrome billets in the center. The most noticeable exterior feature of the srt-10 is a unique hood that features a wide power bulge and scoop sitting atop the signature cross-hair grille.  moving rearward, the ram presents robust appearance. The broad, sloping hood has a pronounced crown that falls over the sides to the prominent front fenders. A fast, raked-back windshield enhances aerodynamics and water management, and gives the ram a modern appearance. The leading edge of the front door overlaps the a-pillar, creating a smooth transition from the front of the cab to the side. Everything is smooth and integrated. The big side mirrors, great for visibility, are mounted on platforms to reduce wind noise, and a channel has been specially designed to keep water off of the mirrors. That's seems high when trying to heave heavy gear aboard. interiorthe dodge ram is among the roomiest of the full-size pickups and its cab is a pleasant place to be. Dodge added 3 inches to the cab's total length when the ram was redesigned for 2002, stealing that space from the bed. Regular cab and quad cab versions offer identical roominess in the front seats.  the ram comes with a front bench seat split 40/20/40. The narrow center section features a large fold-down armrest with a compartment big enough to hold a laptop. We've found both the cloth and the leather seats comfortable, though they could use more support on the side bolsters. Laramie models get silver trim adorning the door panels and instrument bezels. Laramie comes with distinctive leather trim, with higher contrast color seat inserts.  we've found the interior materials in rams to be good quality overall, though not all is perfect in truckville. The faux wood trim on the center stack reminds us of plastic. On leather-trimmed models, cloth is used on the inboard seat-bottom trim where leather would have offered a cleaner appearance. The cup holders can be fussy. White-faced instruments with turquoise numbers look sporty and trendy, but don't offer the legibility of traditional white-on-black designs, particularly at dusk. At night, the instruments are nicely illuminated in green.  however, the ram interior is quite nice and shows attention to details that add utility and convenience. The big fold-down center armrest/console comes with adjustable dividers and a power outlet. A hook on the passenger-side floor well is provided for securing a plastic grocery bag or anything else with suitable handles.  three-point shoulder belts are used at all locations, including the rear center seat. Power adjustable pedals let shorter drivers adjust their seating position better so they aren't sitting so close to the airbag; this improves comfort, safety, and drivability and is a smart option for two-driver families. Big mirrors on the ram make it easier to see what's behind.  side-curtain airbags are a $390 option on regular cabs, $490 on quad cabs. Curtain-style airbags are designed to provide head protection in a side impact along with protection in the event of a rollover. We highly recommend them. Setting a button for a station, for example, requires pressing a separate set button, rather than just holding the station button down. Small, sliding bass and treble controls are harder to adjust than knobs when bouncing around in a pickup truck. Optional steering wheel audio controls 75) improve this situation with brilliantly designed buttons behind the steering wheel that are easy to use. 2007 dodge durango review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smoother styling reflects driving refinement. introductiondodge durango looks tough but rides smooth, with a level of refinement not usually associated with chrysler corporation products. Its handling is stable and relatively agile given its size and heft. Inside is a quiet, roomy, comfortable and technologically sophisticated cabin.  this second-generation durango, which first appeared as an '04, is significantly larger than the original, slipping between the chevy tahoe and ford expedition in exterior dimensions.  for 2007, the durango has been significantly face-lifted outside and updated inside. An entirely new front end maintains durango's identity, while adding smoothness and sophistication.  second-row bucket seats are now available. Seat fabrics are more stain resistant, and limited models now feature dual-zone automatic climate control. Also new for 2007 are power windows that operate in express mode both up and down. A new one-touch lane-change feature allows the driver to quickly activate a three-blink turn signal when changing lanes just as with a mercedes. Limited models can be ordered with full-screen cd/dvd navigation and bluetooth hands-free communications.  safety has been enhanced by making an electronic stability program (esp) and side-curtain airbags standard. A tire pressure monitor is now standard in most models and parksense ultrasonic parking assist is standard on limited and optional on slt. Dual-stage front air bags and an occupant-sensing system for the passenger-side front air bag became standard beginning with the 2006 models.    perhaps the best news of all is that, despite all this new equipment, durango prices are actually lower this year than last.  one thing that has not changed is durango's space efficiency. Durango can seat up to seven passengers with its folding third-row seat. With all seats folded, there's more than 100 cubic feet of cargo space. And a properly equipped durango with the optional hemi engine is rated to tow up to 8,950 pounds.  a v6 is standard, but two v8s are available and both are superb. The popular 4. 7-liter v8 is now a flex-fuel engine in 45 states, running on gasoline or up to 85 percent ethanol (e85). It's smooth and it's powerful, but drivers who want or need more can opt for the celebrated 5. 7-liter hemi. Both engines come with a five-speed automatic transmission that's smooth, refined, and responsive. The 235-hp 4. 7-liter v8 and five-speed automatic are optional 785) in those models, and standard in limited and all 4wd models. The slt comes standard with the same cloth seats as the sxt, but leather-trimmed front bucket seats are available 925). A power sunroof 850) also becomes available at the slt level.  adventurer 2wd 31,445) and 4wd 33,565) come with all slt features, plus special off-road equipment that includes tubular side steps, reversible slush mats, a rubberized washable cargo liner with built-in cargo organizer, sirius satellite radio, unique machine-finish wheels and mineral gray moldings and fascias. Adventurer also comes with a thule roof rack with a choice of six rack systems or a unique adventurer accessory kit. A rear-seat dvd player 1200) can be added to all models except sxt. Skid plates and a two-speed transfer case are available for all 4wd models. Light-duty and class iv trailer packages are also offered.  safety features on all models now include side-curtain air bags with roll-over sensors; these provide significant head protection in a side impact or rollover accident. Seat or door-mounted side-impact air bags, however, are not available. Durango's advanced front air bags deploy with varying power based on the weight of the person in the seat. Abs is also standard, as is electronic stability control with traction control. A tire pressure monitor is now standard on slt and limited. But in fact, the entire outer skin ahead of the windshield is new. The durango's new face is at once sharper and better integrated. The new front bumper fascia mounts differently, so it flows into the overfenders without visible seams or gaps. The pouty scribe line at the bottom of the old bumper has been replaced by a better-defined rectangle, which is brightly plated on limited. The front hood no longer wraps over the sides, eliminating one more unsightly seam.  changes at the side and rear are more subtle. The '07 durango still features a high beltline that suggests great mass or perhaps, to some, great safety. Newly available 20-inch chrome clad wheels are now optional on both the slt and limited. All of these big rims are framed nicely by durango's bold wheel arches. Larger (6x9-inch) rearview mirrors are heated and folding on all models.  the roofline still dips slightly at the rear, and the liftgate window curves in to meet it, which keeps durango from looking like the box it came. Afterburner tail lamps, another dodge hallmark, continue on the '07 model. The center high-mounted stop lamp is integrated smoothly into the rear roofline. The motor mounts are calibrated to reduce the frequencies and harmonics of each engine. The windows have an extra layer of lamination to deaden sound. Foam is injected into many of the body and chassis crannies, which would otherwise serve as tiny echo chambers.  despite its modern aerodynamics, however, durango takes its styling cues from the 1946-68 dodge power wagon, which was itself essentially a world war ii t214 military truck with a longer wheelbase and civilian-style, fully enclosed cab. Large amounts of glass contribute to that feeling along with lots of cargo space.

2009 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Family hauler gets more safety features. introductionthe dodge grand caravan is still fresh from a complete redesign for 2008, and for 2009 the grand caravan gets more safety features.  the grand caravan is all about transporting people comfortably and safely, while keeping them entertained. Its designers focused on interior creature comforts, and they succeeded. As part of that focus, dodge has made its stow 'n go seating standard. Stow 'n go has bins behind the first row that can be used to fold the second-row seats into the floor. It's more about comfort and safety than carlike precision. Electronic stability control is standard, and the grand caravan has performed well in government crash tests. The handling is a bit cumbersome, not surprising given the grand caravan's size. It doesn't go around corners as well as the honda odyssey and nissan quest do. It leans in hard turns, so drivers will have to be careful not to upset whatever activities are going on in back.  three v6 engines are available, including a 4. 0-liter 250-horsepower v6 added for 2008. We found the base 3. 3-liter engine can struggle with freeway on-ramps. The 3. 8-liter engine is acceptable, though we prefer the 4. 0-liter v6 introduced for 2008. The top engines from toyota, nissan and honda offer more power and response.  but a minivan isn't about speed and handling. The grand caravan's unique cargo and entertainment features give it a competitive advantage in the minivan class. Seating is two-two-three, with stow 'n go (second- and third-row seats fold flat, into the floor) standard. Options exclusive to the se start with quick order package 24g 1770) with tri-zone manual climate controls (including rear controls), tachometer, trip computer, outside-temperature indicator, compass, and alloy wheels. The tri-zone manual climate controls are offered separately in a climate group 995). The popular equipment group 1495) adds power-adjustable pedals, power-sliding rear doors, and a power rear liftgate. Uconnect tunes 725) comes with a 30-gigabyte hard-drive radio, six-disc cd changer, two additional speakers, and a usb connection. An entertainment group 1395) includes a rear dvd entertainment system with a single nine-inch screen and sirius satellite radio. A roof rack is also offered 250).  grand caravan sxt 27,825) uses a 197-hp 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 with a six-speed transaxle. Sxt equipment includes three-zone manual climate control with rear-seat controls, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, eight-way power driver's seat with lumbar adjustment, power-adjustable pedals, power sliding rear doors, sirius satellite radio, trip computer, compass, outside-temperature indicator, universal garage door opener, illuminated visor mirrors, 115-volt power outlet, fog lights, roof rack, overhead storage, pinpoint led lighting, and alloy wheels. The 250-hp 4. 0-liter v6 630) is optional. Other sxt options include quick order package 28l 2365) with leather upholstery, heated first and second-row seats, power passenger seat, power rear liftgate, vehicle information center, additional interior lights, rechargeable/removable flashlight, bright bodyside moldings, sport suspension, and p225/65r17 tires. The premium group 1995) includes tri-zone automatic climate controls (including rear controls), third-row power-folding seat, nine-speaker 506-watt infinity audio system, uconnect phone wireless link, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rain-sensing wipers. The security group 1425) adds rear-obstacle detection, dodge's new rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems, uconnect phone, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic headlights. The family value group 695) includes a removable center console, sunshades for second and third row, and remote engine starting. The sxt entertainment group 2 2200) comes with a rear dvd entertainment system with two nine-inch rear screens, a six-disc cd changer, usb connection, uconnect tunes, and a rearview camera. Uconnect tunes 675) is available as a standalone option. Uconnect gps 1300) includes uconnect tunes, plus a navigation system with voice activation and real-time traffic, rearview camera, six-disc cd changer, sirius satellite radio, uconnect phone, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. With rear dvd entertainment, customers can order sirius backseat tv 495). Front side airbags are not available. Optional safety features include a rearview camera, rear obstacle detection, and the new rear cross path and blind spot monitoring systems. A description of the overall shape of this newest generation of the dodge grand caravan wouldn't sound too much different from a description of the 1982 model. People don't buy minivans so others will look and say, 'that's the new minivan. Some styling!'  the dodge grand caravan is boxy, but it's attractive in an suv kind of way. The hood is less fairly flat, and it bears character lines. The grille is very upright, making the dodge crosshair grille look like that of a dodge truck, especially in chrome. The short wheelbase caravan was dropped with the 2008 redesign. All of them are now grand.  the grand caravan is the second largest minivan on the market, smaller than only the nissan quest. These comparisons are relatively unimportant, however, because the other minivans are within an inch or two of the grand caravan in both wheelbase and overall length. The grand caravan is a big vehicle, with a 202. 5-inch overall length and a 121. 2-inch wheelbase. interiorthe dodge grand caravan leads the minivan field when it comes to interior convenience, capability and versatility. Chrysler has been working to give its minivans a competitive advantage in these areas for a long time, and they haven't been afraid to be creative.  the interior materials are lackluster, however. Hollow hard plastic dominates the dash and door panels. Everything fits together well, but it doesn't make for a luxurious look and feel. We quite liked the look and feel. The black vinyl trim and satin aluminum-look plastic didn't look rich, but nor was it ugly. We like this feature.  we had six 10-year-old soccer players test the grand caravan's video player during a 90-minute drive to the game, and they liked it. The dvd was a snap to play, which is important because some of them, even those in much more expensive vehicles, are not easy to use. The screen drops down from the ceiling and the viewing begins. It comes with wireless headphones. It has jacks to plug in video game systems. It's available with sirius backseat tv, which comes with three kid-friendly channels: disney channel, cartoon network, and nickelodeon. When the dvd screen is deployed, the driver loses.

2011 dodge grand caravan review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Updated and fully competitive in the class. introductiondodge grand caravan has been substantially revised for the 2011 model year, and we think the changes elevate this minivan on the consideration scale. The dodge grand caravan and chrysler town & country offer class-leading interior convenience.  the 2011 dodge grand caravan benefits from an extensive midcycle update. Changes for 2011 include revised styling, a new engine, an upgraded suspension, and a reworked interior.  for 2011, grand caravan has been repositioned to sell mostly below $30,000 while its chrysler counterpart, the town & country, is packaged to sell above $30,000. For the grand caravan, that means several features are no longer available, including sirius backseat tv, flotv, a power third-row seat, a dual-screen rear dvd entertainment system, and swivel 'n go seating with second-row seats that turn rearward to face a table that stows in the floor. However, the key features that make the grand caravan a compelling purchase as a people mover remain.  the new engine for 2011 is a 3. 6-liter v6 that replaces three archaic v6s from 2010, offering more power and improved fuel economy. The new engine fixes a weak point and makes the dodge competitive with the toyota sienna and honda odyssey. This fine new 3. 6-liter v6 is mated to a mediocre 6-speed automatic transmission, resulting in a combination that delivers adequate response for most drivers.  the 2011 grand caravan suspension is stiffer than before and the van rides lower, making it more responsive to driver inputs than the 2010 model. Gone are the annoying wallow and float characteristics we noted with the 2010 model. Yet ride quality is still quite smooth. Like all modern minivans, the grand caravan is big, so it can be a beast to handle in tight quarters. Grand caravan, sienna, and odyssey are all the same size: extra large. Indeed, we should call these vehicles midi-vans or vans because there is nothing mini about them.  for 2011, the interior of the grand caravan is upgraded, and we find the new look far more attractive. The materials are richer, though, like most of its rivals, hard plastic dominates the dashboard. Still, the new soft-touch door tops, redesigned gauges and nice bits of trim are welcome.  grand caravan is about usable space. Super stow 'n go is standard. The third-row seats fold into the well behind them, and with all the seats down the grand caravan can accept a 4x8 sheet of plywood.  the grand caravan's unique cargo and entertainment features make it a strong contender in the minivan class, and the 2011 changes only make it better. Families will like it, especially because those entertainment features will make for more enjoyable family trips. That is, after all, the reason the grand caravan remains so popular. While some options are gone, there are plenty of entertainment features that will help keep the kids occupied. They include three types of hard-drive radio, sirius satellite radio, rear dvd entertainment, a wireless cell phone link, and a mobile internet hot spot. Its designers focused on interior creature comforts, such as the popular stow 'n go seating system. Stow 'n go consists of bins in the floor behind the first row of seats, and second-row seats that can be folded into those bins, resulting in a flat load floor for easily carrying larger objects. Options include a rearview camera, rear park assist, rear cross path and blind spot alert. All-wheel drive is not available. walkaroundthe dodge grand caravan is attractive, as minivans go. The look is less boxy for 2011, as dodge has softened the lines a bit while adding a touch of sportiness.  for starters, the 2011 grand caravan sits an inch lower than before. Up front, it has a sportier fascia with mesh inserts, a revised version of the dodge crosshair grille, a slightly reshaped hood and quad headlights. At the rear, the liftgate is slightly modified to accept new dodge lettering, there is a body color roof spoiler, the fascia is new, there a step plate with chrome trim, and the taillights add leds. Sixteen-inch wheels are standard. We think the available five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels look better.  a minivan shape does not lend itself to artistic sculpture. A description of the overall shape of this current generation of the dodge grand caravan wouldn't sound too much different from a description of the 1982 model. There is a big box behind, where all the people and cargo fit, and a smaller box in front, for the engine. That very efficient outline defines every minivan on the road.  all the leading minivans, including toyota sienna, honda odyssey, and chrysler town & country, are within an inch or two of the grand caravan in overall dimensions. The grand caravan has a 202. 8-inch overall length and a 121. 2-inch wheelbase.  these so-called minivans are quite large. However, they share their basic architecture with cars, using unit-body structures and front-wheel-drive platforms, with the engine mounted transversely. Conversely, full-size vans, such as the chevrolet express, are built on truck platforms, with body-on-frame structures, rear-wheel-drive platforms and giant, longitudinally mounted v8 engines. Minivans are lighter, more fuel-efficient and offer more responsive handling than the full-size vans. interiorthe 2011 grand caravan gets a new interior design, and it's a considerable upgrade versus the 2010 model. The dashboard is still hard plastic, but that's the norm for the class. The look and feel is much better, with a more flowing, one-piece design. The door tops are now padded, adding a touch of comfort, and the cloth and leather upholstery are upgraded. We liked the stain-resistant cloth seats on last year's models, but the cloth seats on the 2011 models look quite good as well.  up front, the instrumentation is changed for 2011, with bigger black dials offset by blue-tinted graphics and chrome trim. The shift lever sticks out just to the left of the center stack, an efficient location.  the steering wheel is new on the 2011 model.

2009 dodge ram review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Redesigned and re-engineered for 2009. introductionthe 2009 dodge ram is a new truck that incorporates dodge's forward-thinking style and refinements to cosmetics and engineering. The dodge ram is a light-duty full-size pickup, a so-called half-ton truck, but this latest version lacks the 1500 badge of previous versions because the heavy-duty versions (2500, 3500) share little in appearance and running gear.  technically the truck is not all new. The v6 and 4. 7-liter v8 engines (overhauled recently), the brake system (upgraded), and transmissions have not been substantially changed for the 2009 model year. In a few cases, such as the front suspension geometry and the forward frame sections, the design remained but new materials are being used for more strength, less weight, or both. Some audio and climate control systems, and the middle front row seat may appear familiar, too. But that's where any similarities between the 2008 and 2009 models end.  the bodywork is all new and more aerodynamic. A crew cab model has been added to the mix; it has more cabin space than the quad cab but in more manageable dimensions than the retired mega cab. The new crew cab required its own pickup bed, dubbed rambox: a perfect rectangle inside, it sports a pair of lockable bins along the bed sides, but can carry the standard 4x8-foot sheet flat on the bed floor.  interiors have been given new styles and materials, new center console with shifter for some models, and new amenities and gadgets. Virtually every mechanical and air management system has been refined to limit noise and vibrations that become fatiguing over time.  chrysler's image-building hemi 5. 7-liter v8 has been tuned up to 390 horsepower and 407 pound-feet of torque; it's the most powerful v8 in any regular or mid-size-cab pickup at time of introduction, and it didn't come at the expense of fuel economy. At the other end, a new rear suspension employs a design returning to full-size pickups after a decades-long absence and currently used on some sport-utilities like the jeep grand cherokee and chevy tahoe that see off-pavement use.  what dodge didn't do is follow the last decade's trend of making half-ton pickups carry and tow more than the previous generation. There are plenty of dodge (and other) heavy-duty pickups for pulling big trailers or hauling two tons of hay, and the decision to keep the light-duty ram in the light-duty work realm pays dividends in comfort and is beneficial in terms of fuel economy. lineupthe 2009 dodge ram comes in six trim levels: st, slt, sport, trx, r/t, and laramie. Special edition models, such as big horn and lone star, are regional offerings and primarily cosmetic or packaging changes. The 5. 7-liter v8 hemi is offered across the board. No manual transmissions are offered.  ram st models 21,270-$29,735) are workhorses, with standard vinyl floor and manual windows, although they do include chrome bumpers and grille outline, air conditioning, abs, cd player, variable intermittent wipers, locking tailgate, sentry key and on 4wd, electric-shift. Options include chrome wheels, two-tone paint, cruise control, trailer mirrors, limited-slip differential and alternate axle ratios, sliding rear window, sirius radio and mopar wifi.  ram slt models 25,465-$34,850) upgrade with carpet floor covering, floor mats, 40/20/40 split-bench seat, overhead console, cruise control, remote keyless entry, power windows and door locks, heated mirrors and 17-inch painted aluminum wheels. Trx features electric-shift transfer case on 4wd models, unique shocks and ride height, 17-inch aluminum wheels and a full-size spare tire, heavy-duty vinyl floor covering, cloth 40/20/40 split-bench front seat, folding rear bench seat (quad cab models), tilt steering column, remote keyless entry and standard two-tone paint. Pay extra for an engine block heater, power-sliding rear window, heated power folding mirrors, bedliner, 3. 92:1 axle ratio, limited-slip differential, tip start, cruise control, and uconnect studios sirius satellite radio. Ram sport 29,365-$38,670) is available in all three cab styles but is labeled r/t on the regular cab. It adds a 5. 7-liter hemi, slate-gray contrast-stitched bucket seats, body-color fascia, fog lamps and 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels. R/t models use a 4. 10:1 rear axle for superior acceleration but will still tow 5000 pounds. Options mirror those on slt. Ram laramie 37,870-$43,240) is the top of the line, with leather heated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, chromed door handles and mirrors, and security alarm. Extra-cost features include 20-inch aluminum wheels, sunroof, navigation and rear-seat entertainment. The illusion comes from more sheetmetal and smaller gaps.  for the last 15 years rams have had lots of space between tires and fenders but the '09 narrows the gap. Side panels have increased in height by nearly 3. 5 inches, to close the crevasse between the truck and the ground, yet the approach angle critical to pickup use hasn't diminished. The split between cab and bed is narrower, and there's a lateral seal in it to reduce air turbulence, the side mirrors stand off from the door glass, the sides are flatter, and the tailgate spoiler and windshield are both rounder for improved aerodynamics. Seen from behind where the tires appear almost flush with the body panels, the truck looks quite trim, rather like a european-cut dress shirt as opposed to an american-cut shirt.  there is no large seam between the front bumper and the grille and lights, and if the truck does not have fog lights the bumper does not have the outline marks that show it's missing something. The rear bumper is larger, has half-round openings for the sport exhaust on trucks so equipped, and both 7- and 4-pin trailer plugs are fitted adjacent to the rear plate. On upper variants the mirrors have led puddle lamps and the headlamps are dual-bulb units, the first since the mid-'90s sport models, and on the 2009 sport the front bumper is deeper and body-colored. The rambox of crew cab models has a perfectly rectangular interior with no wheel-well intrusions. The crew cab rambox is 49 inches wide, ensuring it can carry the ubiquitous 4x8 building materials flat on the floor. Side rails with cleats secure the cargo, and a bed divider that locks into place segments the bed into smaller areas or can be flipped over and used as a bed extender with the tailgate down.  along the sides of the rambox are two locking bins, capable of holding 120 standard 12-ounce cans on the left side (where the fuel fill is) and 130 on the right. These boxes have locking lids, drains, lights and 90-degree opening lids; together the volume exceeds that of a 55-gallon drum. The new seats offer good support and plenty of room. We swapped through a few ram models back-to-back to compare th.

The keys to this balance is its carlike unitbody structure, which is lighter than a truck chassis, fitted with front-wheel drive and a carlike suspension.  most models come with a 3. 5-liter v6 rated at 235 horsepower. Seats flip and fold to provide a wide range of versatility in hauling people, cargo, or both. It features some unique storage solutions owners will find useful. Among them: a bin under the front passenger seat, storage under the floor in the second row and behind the last row of seats, a dual glove box with dodge's chill zone that cools soda cans, and all the usual cubbies up front, including a fairly deep center console. The se is exclusively front-wheel drive (fwd), while the sxt and r/t models are offered with front drive or all-wheel drive (awd). The safe and sound group 695) has dodge's mygig multimedia entertainment system and a rearview camera. The sxt awd also gets performance steering, performance suspension, and p225/55r19 tires on aluminum wheels.  options start with the sxt flexible seating group 995), which includes a third-row 50/50 folding/reclining seat, second-row 60/40 tilt 'n slide rear seat, and three-zone temperature control (including the rear). Convenience group i 895) includes a cargo compartment cover on five-passenger vehicles, interior air filter, driver and front passenger lower led lamps, front and rear aimable led lamps, a roof rack, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, ipod control, uconnect phone, remote start, and a universal garage door opener. The navigation and sound group i 1,695) includes six premium speakers with subwoofer and 368-watt amplifier, uconnect navigation, uconnect phone, ipod control, and a rearview camera. The premium convenience group 995) has dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and six premium speakers with subwoofer and 368-watt amplifier. The look might be described as bold. Actually, it runs the full width of the vehicle and is flanked on either side by integrated fog lights on the sxt and r/t models. The roofline flows nicely from the windshield, curving down slightly front to rear. The taillights themselves feature two war paint chrome stripes and the tailgate is made out of a composite material to reduce weight. The rear bumper has an integrated step pad that matches the height of the load floor. In overall dimension, it is only slightly shorter than the ford explorer, and it's actually longer than such seven-passenger crossover competitors as the toyota highlander, subaru tribeca and hyundai veracruz. While there is still evidence of the cheap plastic of recent dodge products, there are also more soft-touch materials that look and feel much better. The improvement is most evident in the r/t model, which has a black dash center section that looks good and feels better than the center stack in the se and sxt models.  that center stack contains an easy-to-use climate control system with three knobs and eight buttons. The radio can be a little complicated, especially when ordered with the available mygig infotainment system, which includes a navigation system and a hard drive to hold songs, pictures and map information.
